“English or… NOTHING!“ is a project we created in 2013 to get students to experience the use of English in an intercultural frame using two of the worlds which fascinate them most: music and drama.

This is the 2018 edition of the project.

“Long live Fantasy & imagination, ordinary heroes,
positive and necessary teachings,
messages of hope and the books which contain all of this.”
( Elisabetta Gnone )

The reason why this year’s edition of our project takes inspiration from Fantasy lies in the words of the Italian journalist E. Gnone: we worked on six writers of fantasy sagas written in English because they tell of “what never changes – of gods, Tolkien would say, not of light bulbs, allowing whoever reads to delve into the depths of their soul, and uncover things, sometimes whole continents, whose existence they were unaware of.“
(F. Dimitri)

Together we rediscovered the importance of the imagination which, according to Einstein, “is more important than knowledge, for knowledge is limited, wheras imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution“.

Since the sagas we studied shared certain aspects like the ultimate battle between good and evil, myths, the supernatural, themes like fragility, vulnerability and imperfection, which make us simply human, we chose one emblematic saga out of the six for the show, i.e. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, and we’ll talk about

• THIRST FOR POWER
• COURAGE
• LOYALTY
• LOVE and SACRIFICE
• FEAR and FOLLY
• FRIENDSHIP
in an atmosphere of mystery, magic and music……
