HARUHIRO KINOSHITA
(1965 - )

He is the writer of a short story (originally published in a 2008 book and posted on a blog called One Minute Impressions) which struck a chord with tens of thousands of people across Japan as it spread through social networks.

The central theme of his story THERE WAS THIS CASHIER can be summed up as follows: “Putting care and love into your work can bring you joys you never knew”.

CHARLES DICKENS
(1812 – 1870)

An English writer and social critic, he created some of the best-known fictional characters, including memorable ghosts! He campaigned with vigor for children’s rights and education.

His story THE BARON OF GROGZWIG is centred around the following theme: “Life is not something that you quit when things are not going your way”.

S.T. COLERIDGE
(1772 – 1834)

An English poet, literary critic and philosopher, he was a founder of the Romantic Movement in England. His use of imagination gave birth to unforgettable symbolic figures as in his poem THE RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER.

At the core of this poem is the question “Have you ever done something stupid knowing all the time it was stupid… and learnt from it?”

OSCAR WILDE
(1854 – 1900)

An Irish writer and poet, he charmed the world with his witty epigrams and shocked it with his disreputable choices. An aesthete and a dandy, he experienced the contradictions and the hypocrisy of his age.

In his moving tale THE SELFISH GIANT he shows that “Kindness is the only language even the deaf can hear and the dumb can speak.”

LEV NIKOLÀEVIC TOLSTOJ
(1828 - 1910)

A Russian novelist, one of the greatest of all times though his professors at University had described him as "both unable and unwilling to learn"! His ideas on nonviolent resistance had a profound impact on pivotal 20th-century figures.

Starting from THREE QUESTIONS he reaches the conclusion that “Every instant, every person and every action in our life has a meaning.”

O. HENRY
(1862 – 1910 )

Pen name of William Sydney Porter, an American writer whose short stories are known for their wit, wordplay, and clever twist endings. Usually set in his own time, the stories deal for the most part with ordinary people.

In THE GIFT OF THE MAGI he answers the question “What really matters, and what's really valuable when you love someone?”
